Community
Bible Institute is the adult education ministry of Community Pentecostal
Church. It was founded as part of the vision which God has given
to Pastor Thomas D. Bates for C.P.C. It is based upon two Biblical
principles: |
| |
Hosea
4:6: My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge…
and
Ephesians 4:11-15: And he gave some apostles; and
some,
prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors
and teachers;
For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the
ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
|
| |
We
believe that it is the church’s God-given responsibility to
train up a body of people who are ready for every challenge of this
generation and the generation to come. The words of the Lord in Hosea
4:6 (My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge) must
never be said of the body of Christ at Community Pentecostal Church.
Community Bible Institute has been formed to encourage every member
of C.P.C. to become the person whom Christ intends them to be. |

Just
What Is CBI and How Does It Work? |
| |
-
CBI
is the Community Bible Institute.
It will offer a wide variety of adult education classes on Sunday
mornings at 10 a.m. during the Sunday School hour.
-
What
is going to happen to Sunday School?
CBI is Sunday School for adults. You will still
have the opportunity to attend a CBI Sunday School class in
the church sanctuary, but now you will also have other choices
for adult education classes (which will be taught in the Tara
Center).
-
Are
there any other differences from the old way of doing Sunday
School? Yes – class sessions will last 8 weeks instead of the 6 or 7
week sessions of the past.
-
What
about the younger age groups? There will only be one
change in classes for kindergarten – teen age levels –
They will meet in 8 week sessions, instead of the 6 or 7 week
sessions of the past.
-
What
kind of classes can I take? There many exciting
varieties and topics from which to choose.
-
What
is this I have heard about taking CBI classes for “credit?”
You may work toward earning a CBI Degree. To earn a degree,
you must take 20 (or more classes). Also, you will be required
to take a number of classes from the 5 areas of study (see the
Course Offering section of this notice).

Will
CBI classes ever be taught at any other time than Sunday mornings?
Yes, other CBI classes are offered on Tuesday evenings. Eventually, if the demand for classes
is great, we will consider offering classes on Thursdays (in addition
to the Sunday and Tuesday sessions). Will
all of the classes be about the Bible? Sunday morning classes
will all be based on Bible study and Biblical issues. On Tuesdays,
however, some of the classes will be centered in practical Christian
living (such as Weigh Down Workshop and Computer Basics).
There are 5 “areas of study.” They
are:
-
Bible Study
- Leadership
- Spiritual Growth
- Financial Foundations
- Christian Foundations
- Electives

Who will be teaching the classes? CBI will have
a faculty of the highest quality and maturity. It is made up of
both staff members and members of our congregation who have shown
a maturity in their lives, a faithfulness in their commitment to
the body of Christ at Community Pentecostal Church, a high degree
of maturity in the Word of God, and a willingness to be accountable
to the leadership of C.P.C.
|
 |
 |
How
many different “choices” will I have on Sunday mornings?
Counting the class in the church sanctuary, 8 classes will be offered
on Sunday mornings. Each 8 week session will offer new classes. The
sanctuary class, however, will be taught continually each session. There will be six 8 week sessions.
Thus a student
may take up to 6 classes on Sunday mornings. There will be 4 Tuesday
evening sessions (with different classes), so it will be possible
to take 4 classes on Tuesdays, making the Sunday - Tuesday total a
possible 10 classes.
Ordination Procedures: If someone
wants to be a candidate for ordination by Community Pentecostal
Church, they must earn a CBI degree and take several required courses.
Please see Stephen Rust for more information on ordination.
